Inanimate Alice task
While
reading/playing “Inanimate Alice: Episode 3” I experienced fragment of unusual
life of Alice, girl who is narrating most of the story in this episode. Starting this story in the middle was quite
troublesome, without knowing motives of character it is hard to empathize about
them. OST of the game was trying to be spooky and corrupted. Because of all of
this confusion I read first half of the story quite fast, without looking out for
details, waiting for some explanation.
The most
joyful part of Episode 3 was writing 1,5 pages essay about components of the
Visual Novel (or Digital story, as dispace calling it). I never thought there
is a 15-minute VN that would fire me up that much.
As I said
earlier first half of the story was a mess, from my point of view, that to be
expected if you, for example, open a new book at a middle and start reading it.
The school part where we were showed a photos/video-clips of school life were
hard to look at, video-effects gave it unusual feeling, but IMHO it was just a
bad experience for my eyes.
The part in
the closet hit hard. As a child the outside world is so vast and everlasting,
so Alice’s cpmment about coziness of a closet felt real. The world of closed is
finite and understandable. The world where only you and your device exist.
The most
important tip and the most repeated point that I’m making never read from
middle of a story (reading from ending is sometimes acceptable). But also one
should be more acceptable with his first experience with VN(DS). It’s structure
is different from books and movies, good VN can never be fully adapted to
neither of them, so most of a time it worth to read them.
In Episodes we can see, hear and interact with the story, for example:
IN school we can: see exterior of the school, and after that we see both interior and living creatures studying inside that building.; Hear the music, which is still alarming, shivering, and to top that it is trying to be upbeat. The voices sound like they are from corrupted disc. Click on the arrows on a screen to advance the story.
In Trouble: While still in closet, we see Alice paying more attention to a conversation.;Beneath the music we can hear the conversation itself.; Click on the arrows on a screen to advance the story.
In Siberia: Presumably, we see how Alice's dad driving to his workplace, but something there goes wrong to a "flaming" extend;Music which becomes more dynamic as the episode goes.; Click on the arrows on a screen to advance the story.
In Checkpoint: Comrade Officer stop our car to inspect Alice's gadjet. We still can not see faces, but his figure is quite massive in eyes of a kid.;OST is even more alarming, but now it is intentional, I guess. Voice of the officer also can be heard.;. Click on the arrows on a screen to advance the story. And if you chose "play" option at the start collect last Matryoshka.
In airplane: The whole family safely comes aboard of an airplane.;Music is finally reassuring, and not in any kind dynamic.; But In this part reader can not interact with the story.
